Remembering Monte Sahlin
Long time APF friend, Monte Sahlin, passed away on April 2.
I first met Monte at the 2007 Adventist Urban Congress held at Oakwood Adventist University, where I purchased his book, Mission in Metropolis. My next connection to Monte came as I began submitting book and film review as well as interviews to Adventist Today. For example, he agreed to co-promote my Adventists for Social Action interview series, Viewpoints.
One day after I submitted a book review, he wrote back asking if I would join the AToday team as assistant news editor, a role that expanded over time. His mentorship meant a lot, and I’ll carry with me his patient guidance as we worked on stories together, including explanations regarding the nuances for NAD and GC functioning.
Monte mentored a lot of us through the years, and we will hold him in our hearts and minds as we move forward with new communication projects and new ministries.
To honor Monte’s memory, I offer again an extended conversation Monte and I recorded for the Adventist Peace Radio podcast:
Ep 60: Faith-based Social Action, Pt 1. Monte Sahlin (25 Jan 2021).
Ep 61: Faith-based Social Action, Pt 2. Monte Sahlin (5 Feb 2021).
