Official Statement on War in Ukraine
Since our founding in 2001, the core of Adventist Peace Fellowship’s mission has been to follow the call of Jesus to promote peace and justice among and for all of God’s children. We believe in following Christ’s example of living counter-culture to the world’s inclination towards violence. Today, more than ever, this message and mission are essential.
Over the last several days, increasing tensions and aggressive actions taken by the Russian government against Ukraine have created an onslaught of trauma for tens of thousands of innocent people, with possible repercussions for millions more. At the time of this writing, people are fleeing for their lives and sheltering with their families as a result of this senseless violence. These attacks are coordinated, intentional, and aimed at dominance over others while spreading disinformation online and abroad.
The Adventist Peace Fellowship strongly condemns acts of war and violence by the Russian government and urges world’s leaders to find a peaceful resolution to this conflict. We pray for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, including over 43,000 members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, who are grappling with these acts of war. We also pray for the leadership of all nations involved in the conflict and for wisdom and humility to be present in negotiations. We ask God to stand in negotiation rooms, to watch over the newly homeless, and to turn our human hearts toward each other in tenderness and love.
